Frameless sliding glass
Frameless panels move along multi-track rails without vertical frames blocking the view. They suit seasonal verandas but do not provide the airtightness of insulated window systems.
Framed sliding doors
Framed panels add vertical stiffness and make handles, locks and seals easier to integrate. Opening direction should follow circulation and panel parking space.
Fixed glass panels
Fixed glazing works well on a side that does not need to open and can form a wind screen, balustrade or companion panel beside sliding doors.
Tracks, thresholds and drainage
The lower track must be stable, level and protected from standing water. Roof drainage and terrace falls should not discharge directly into the sliding rails.
Which sides should be enclosed?
A wall-mounted roof has a front and two sides; a freestanding structure can also close the rear. Start with the prevailing wind side rather than automatically enclosing everything.
What should you prepare before the survey and quotation?

Measure the approximate façade width, projection and installation height. Include photographs of the full wall, corners and ground surface.

Wind and driving rain
Indicate the prevailing wind direction. One carefully positioned sliding wall can sometimes improve comfort more effectively than enclosing the whole terrace.
Ground, drainage and services
Check what is below the paving, where foundations can be made and how drainage, LED wiring or automation power can be routed.
Colour and structural divisions
Prepare the window-frame colour or RAL code and decide which views should remain uninterrupted and where posts or glass joints may be acceptable.
